
I harvested her at 3pm and we were 2.5 miles from the truck. We did not have time to get the elk out before dark. Since we are in bear country, we had to be very aware of our surroundings. We quartered the elk (they are huge and cannot be drug out) and hung 3 quarters in a tree to retrieve the next day. Luckily, nothing got the meat and it made it out safely.
Here is a picture of Dave with a quarter plus the loins and backstraps on his back (about 60 lbs) under the tree where we hung the other 3 quarters.
